The Ti leaf lei symbolizes the strength of the islands. The Ti plant or Ki is considered sacred to the Hawaiian god, Lono, and to the goddess of the hula, Laka. It was also an emblem of high rank and divine power.
The Ti leafs can be braided into multiple varieties of ti leaf leis, as a cooking vessel, into a ho'okupu, and also used as decoration for luaus, parties and weddings.
